T-Mobile to Sell Unlocked iPhones w/ No Contract in Germany
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007| T-Mobile Germany announced today it will sell the iPhone without a T-Mobile contract for 999 euros ($1,478) at its shops. (Ouch, that's kind of pricey!) However, rival Vodafone obtained a court injunction against it. T-Mobile stated it will comply with the injunction until the situation has been clarified by a court. A German court granted Vodafone a preliminary injunction this week preventing T-Mobile from locking the iPhone's SIM card to T-Mobile when making a sale.
T-Mobile plans to allow customers who bought an iPhone since November 19 to unlock the device free of charge so it can be used with other SIM cards. However, that will not enable customers to make use of all the functions that the music-playing and Web-browsing device offers. (That doesn't seem fair!) T-Mobile has an exclusive deal with Apple to sell the iPhone in Germany, where Apple has no stores. Until now, customers had to sign up to a 24-month T-Mobile contract costing a minimum of 1,176 euros in order to buy the 399-euro phone. |

T-Mobile Halts Sidekick Slide Sales
Monday, November 19th, 2007| T-Mobile USA has suspended sales of the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide as of Friday evening, Nov. 16, after Motorola, the manufacturer of the device, confirmed that some devices may inadvertently power off when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed.
Motorola is currently working to identify the root cause of the power cycle issue in affected Sidekick Slide devices. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX and Sidekick iD are not affected by this issue. If a customer purchased a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the unintended power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care, or go to a T-Mobile retail store, for assistance and to discuss available options. The Sidekick iD or the Sidekick LX are not affected. The new Sidekick Slide allows you to stay constantly connected to your friends. It features a unique slide up screen, a full QWERTY keyboard and a 1.3mp camera. Plus, it features always-on, one-touch instant messaging and the best MySpace mobile experience! Slide into action with the new Sidekick Slide. |
